Econic’s unique, patented technology has applications in everyday products like cars, clothes, construction materials, mattresses and more. By replacing oil-based raw materials with renewable carbon, our chemistry makes products work better and cost less, so billions of people can enjoy modern life with less impact on the planet.

Why renewable carbon?

Carbon is the backbone of life on earth. It’s embedded in every living thing on the planet and forms the basis of all organic chemistry. We use carbon from fossil fuels for nearly 90% of the carbon required for chemicals and derived materials. These fuels are running out. Meanwhile, consumers, investors and governments are pushing the chemical industry to defossilise even as demand for carbon-based products continues to grow.

We can’t decarbonise chemistry, but we can find better sources of carbon than fossil fuels. That’s why our team at Econic is focused on renewable carbon.

Carbon capture utilisation

Carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) is one of three options for renewable carbon (aside from biomass and recycling). It’s a broad term for any process that converts CO2 from flue gas, process gases, or the air into renewable electricity, chemicals, and materials. At Econic, we’re frontrunners in carbon capture utilisation.

The benefits of our technology

The Econic process is a cost-effective way to crack open CO2 so it can be upcycled into renewable carbon. Our process makes carbon-based products work better and cost less while:

  1. Reducing the carbon footprint of polyols up to 30%
  2. Keeping carbon in use and out of the atmosphere
  3. Complementing bio-based technologies and emerging recycling systems

Design for circularity with renewable carbon

New policies are driving more eco-friendly design choices, changing the ingredients and chemistries inside everyday products, and encouraging recycling like never before. Renewable carbon can play a role.

Since the Econic process converts CO2 waste streams into higher value products with less impact on the planet, we consider it a form of upcycling.

For chemists, engineers and product developers designing for circularity, we believe it’s a viable option that delivers benefits from cradle to cradle.
